1. Washable, easy-clean or water-repellent: what each means

2. Brands and collections to ask about in store
We work with Aquaclean, Froca, SIC, Vicotex, Elastron and other suppliers including Cabanes & Ortuño. Sofa compatibility, colours, surcharges and availability are confirmed for each order. Fabrics from the same brand do not necessarily share the same finish.
Aquaclean®: cleaning with water
Aquaclean describes combined repellent and extraction protection to help remove household stains with water. Remove excess residue, use a little water and work gently with a cloth. Care depends on the stain and fabric; if a mark persists, ask for advice before treating it again.
Froca
Froca offers H2Oh! water-cleaning finishes, PetFriendly ranges and GreenLine fabrics with recycled content. Check these features for each collection. Here are four references to compare using the manufacturer’s public specifications.

SIC
SIC separates Comfort Collection, with liquid- and stain-resistant technologies, from Pet-Proof, designed for households with pets. Other collections offer different textures and designs. Ask for the specific fabric sheet: tests, composition, certifications and washing instructions cannot be applied to the entire catalogue.
Vicotex
Vicotex offers different collections and technologies, including NewEver® and Vicoclean®. Before choosing, we check the specific finish and manufacturer’s care advice. A brand name does not replace the exact fabric reference.
Elastron
Elastron distinguishes Anti-Stain, Hydrocare, Easy to Clean and Pet Friendly options. Water cleaning is available for specific references, not the whole range. We confirm the collection and maintenance method before preparing your order.
Cabanes & Ortuño
Cabanes & Ortuño is a Yecla business specialising in upholstery textiles and accessories. Its collections differ, so check the composition, finish, care and availability of your chosen fabric.
3. Choosing for your household
- With children: prioritise straightforward cleaning and clear care instructions. Mid-tones and subtle colour variation may show everyday marks less than a completely uniform surface.
- With pets: compare hair removal, snag resistance and cleaning finishes. A close weave can be practical, but no fabric is indestructible against claws or chewing.
- For a light sofa: choose by actual care requirements, not colour alone. Examine a large sample in daylight alongside your floor and wall colours.
- For heavy daily use: consider abrasion, seams, feel, pilling and maintenance together. A high abrasion figure is only one part of the decision.
- For feel and appearance: chenille, velvet, bouclé and plain weaves feel different. Texture does not decide whether water, machine washing or dry cleaning is suitable; the specific care sheet does.
4. Cleaning a stain on Aquaclean fabric
If this method is approved for your fabric, follow Aquaclean’s instructions. Other brands or finishes require their own care directions; do not automatically apply this procedure to every sofa.
- Carefully remove excess residue without spreading it or pushing it into the fabric.
- Apply a little water with a damp, well-wrung absorbent cloth. Wait a few seconds; do not soak the seat.
- Press and work gently in circular movements as directed by the brand. Use a clean part of the cloth and repeat if needed. Allow to air-dry.
5. Washable covers: before using a washing machine
Check separately which parts are removable and which cleaning methods the fabric permits. An opening zip alone does not authorise home washing. Ask for written care instructions for the chosen reference.
- Follow the label’s temperature and programme; there is no universal setting for all fabrics.
- Follow instructions for detergent, spinning, tumble drying and ironing; avoid unapproved products.
- Check how to dry and refit the cover. Do not enclose damp foam or refit without the required drying.
Steam and extraction machines: use them only when explicitly approved by both the fabric and sofa manufacturers. If approval is unclear, ask before using them.
6. Routine care for better ageing
- Vacuum gently with the right attachment and moderate suction, including seams. Remove hair without aggressive brushes that may catch threads.
- Reposition or turn cushions only when the design allows it. Not all seats and back cushions are reversible.
- Avoid prolonged direct sun and heat sources. Do not scrub hard or mix cleaners; test an approved method in an inconspicuous area.
7. Sofa fabric questions
Which sofa fabric is best with children?
Look for documented easy cleaning, suitable durability and care you can manage. Aquaclean, H2Oh! and other easy-clean references may be practical; the choice depends on the collection and household.
Does stain-resistant mean liquids never penetrate?
No. The term covers different treatments: some repel liquids, others make stains easier to remove. Check the specific technology and care instructions, and absorb spills promptly.
Can every removable cover go in the washing machine?
No. Removable means it can be taken off; the label determines cleaning. Some references allow machine washing, while others need a professional or specific method.
Do pet-friendly fabrics resist every scratch?
There is no universal guarantee against claws, chewing or misuse. Compare the collection’s tests and features, maintain claws and discourage using the sofa as a scratching post.
Do more Martindale cycles mean more years of use?
The test measures laboratory abrasion resistance, not service life in years. Use, maintenance, light exposure, pilling and the other sofa components also matter.
Can I see and feel fabrics before ordering?
Yes. At Sofás Descans you can compare samples and ask which collections suit your chosen model. A screen is a guide; real samples show colour and feel more accurately.
